Todays Jet Stream
The strongest jet stream winds in the atmosphere, on the average, are most likely found over Japan, at a height of 20,000 to 40,000 feet. Here, wind speeds can reach 250 mph. American B-29 bomber pilots flying over Japan during World War II discovered the location of the planet's strongest winds. Westward flying bombers found themselves appearing to hover almost motionless over a target-- and its defenders.
